I'M ANDREA

COLOUR IS MY MOTHER TONGUE

I am a nomadic homebody. An extrovert wallflower. Wisecracking & sincere. Organized anarchist. Considered improvisor. Hyperactive yogi. Reticent confessor. Socialist landlady. Sober party girl. Educated neophyte. Analytical feel-thinker. Hurried slacker. Anti-capitalist hustler.

I am large. I contain multitudes.

About-Image4

As a solopreneur, I’ve been carving out a living — and a life — for myself doing what I love for over 25 years.

No matter what stage you are at in business or organizational development I’ve been where you are, or have worked with someone who has.

I've spend many years focussed on supporting Indigenous Nations who are in court to protect their lands for future generations. I've also worked one-on-one consulting Disability rights organizers, grief coaches, permaculture village founders, Zen buddhist poets, myriad therapists,  circus schoolheadmistresses and radical researchers.

Throughout my life, I’ve been so lucky to work alongside incredibly badass humans who will forever inspire me, and watch groundbreaking community development and social justice initiatives bloom. By bringing multimedia tools to the frontlines and the grassroots, I've teamed up with incredible collaborators to make videos, build websites, write a bazillion articles, and produce art installations, festivals and protests to bring attention to bottom-up, community-led initiatives.

I hold a Masters' degree in Intercultural and International Communication. In my research,I have been enmeshed with communities confronting AIDS, oppressive colonial frameworks, and the devastating impacts of climate change. I've met incredible champions, many of whom are working tirelessly regardless of recognition or funding. Their stories — of creative and courageous ways in which they are taking action to transform inequities  — fill me with crazy hope.

It turns out, I’ve been using Story Based Strategy my entire career. I built my little agency (from a grass roofed hut) based on the hunch that people get switched on by relatable, first person storytelling. Nowadays, I am based on Canada’s west coast and am fortunate to continue working with a network of epic changemakers who keep my fire lit and my skills fresh.

There’s a sweet confluence where heart-touching stories and attention grabbing calls-to-action come together to make a good campaign great. People tell me that media coming of my studio feels spontaneous, beautiful, and blessedly simple: that’s by design.

A recovering Director of Communication, I intend to spend my next decade helping the world burn cooler, but brighter.

If you are a force for good in the world, I want to work with you.
